CHI Bulls -3.0CHI Bulls @ WAS Wizards
The Bulls are going to make the playoffs for the first time in five years but they could finish anywhere from 1st to 7th depending on how they close the season, coupled with the results of 6 other teams. They are on the road but this is still a good spot to grab a win from a Washington team that packed it in a while ago. The only downside with the Bulls on Tuesday is that while they have gotten healthier over the last couple of weeks they played in New York on Monday night and went down with a 5-point loss to the Knicks at MSG. They might be a little winded on the second leg of a back-to-back situation.
Washington took advantage of a weakened Golden State team to get a second win in a row on Sunday. Sharpshooter Corey Kispert led the way with 25 points as he tries to salvage what has been a less than stellar rookie season. It hasn’t been dramatic, but since being acquired from Dallas Kristaps Porzingis has picked up his game. His numbers are up across the board, so maybe they do have a building block for the future there. The Bulls have been solid in back-to-back situations, going 8-7 SU. That includes a perfect 4-0 record when both games have been on the road. They are just 2-2 ATS in those games, but with a small number to cover I like the spot for the Bulls. With Washington coming off a couple of wins, its value is about as high as it is going to get in this last stretch of the season. Fading the Wizards is where I want to be.
MIL Bucks +1.5MIL Bucks @ PHI 76ers
The Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers have identical records with just 8 regular-season games remaining and tonight’s matchup potentially goes a long way to deciding who might top the Eastern Conference. This is the third and final meeting between the 2 teams during the regular season with each team winning one on the road, so as well as inching closer to first place, a tiebreaker is also on the line. Throw into the mix the fact this game features two of the NBA’s top scorers in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid, and the ingredients are all there for a fun night.
Milwaukee hasn’t been an underdog often this season, but it hasn’t fared well in these situations — going 4-10 both straight up and ATS. Philly is 21-16 straight up at home but just 11-17 as a home favorite. Since the James Harden acquisition, the Sixers are 4-4 ATS as home favorites. Both of these teams are below .500 against the spread versus the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee has the hotter offense as of late, but Philadelphia has the better defense. Those are just a handful of the facts which make it tough to separate the teams on paper. However, in a game in which the spread likely won’t matter, give me the better team with an in-form offense that has a clear leg up on the rest of the East.
LA Lakers +12.0LA Lakers @ DAL Mavericks
Things aren’t looking good for the Lakers right now; they are just 0.5 games ahead of the Spurs for the 10th seed in the Western Conference. A loss tonight would see them drop out of the play-in tournament, and having lost 3 of their last 4 games the level of concern is big in Los Angeles. It gets even bigger when it comes to LeBron James, who injured his ankle in the loss to the Pelicans over the weekend. Although he stayed in the game and scored 39 points, his status for tonight is up in the air. Doubt over the King’s fitness has resulted in L.A. entering tonight’s game as 12-point underdogs; the last time they were without LeBron they lost to Philly by 5 points.
Dallas is on the opposite side of the spectrum; it just beat Utah to take control over the 4th seed and looks really good right now. having won 11 of its last 14 overall and 9 of 10 vs Western Conference teams. The Mavericks haven’t been as consistent lately, though, going 3-3 SU over their last 6 — posting questionable performances against Minnesota, Charlotte, and Philadelphia during that stretch. A lot depends on the play of Luka Doncic, and while that’s all good when he has it going, on nights when he is off color this team looks mediocre at best. In head-to-head meetings with the Lakers, the Mavs are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 played.
I like Dallas to win, but I wouldn’t also be shocked if the Lakers kept this game close even if LeBron doesn’t play. They still have Westbrook and he tends to play a lot better when he is the sole No. 1 option on the team. Let’s make a small play on the Lakers to cover.
BKN Nets -13.5DET Pistons @ BKN Nets
The Brooklyn Nets (39-36) will host the Detroit Pistons (20-55) following their 119-110 home loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. The 8-seed Nets lost the first game of a 3-game homestand on Sunday, but have managed to win 7 of their last 10 games. Kevin Durant has led the Nets in scoring in 7 of their last 10 games and is averaging 29.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 7.1 rebounds in that span. Brooklyn currently ranks 12th in offensive efficiency and 20th in defensive efficiency.
The visiting Pistons are coming off a 104-102 home loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday night. The 14-seed Pistons enter tonight’s game on a 2-game losing streak and have lost 8 of their last 10 games. Marvin Bagley III has led the Pistons in scoring in their last 2 games and is averaging 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in that span. Detroit currently ranks 28th in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive efficiency. The Nets are 3-0 against the Pistons this season and have won by an average margin of 14.7 points in those games. With 7 games remaining in their schedule and 4 of those at home, take the Nets to redeem their recent loss with a cover in tonight’s game.
UTA Jazz -1.0UTA Jazz @ LA Clippers
It has been 10 days since the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers last crossed paths. In that meeting the Jazz came out as comprehensive winners at home with a 121-92 result. Tonight the game will be taking place in Los Angeles, but the Clippers would require a monumental effort to swing the balance of this one. The Jazz lead the season series 2-0 after winning the first game by a 19-point margin. For the Jazz, Rudy Gobert could be set to miss tonight’s game; he is listed as day-to-day due to a bruised leg. For the Clippers, Paul George seems close to returning but even if he makes his comeback this game he is unlikely to be effective having been out for so long.
Utah’s defense has been extremely effective against the Clippers this season, with Marcus Morris Sr. the only starter to have managed to score at least 20 points against the Jazz. In their last contest, no starter reached double-digits in the points department. Over the last 10 games the Clippers are just 29th in the league in offensive rating. During that time they also rank in the bottom third of the league in 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage. At the same time, the Jazz are 3rd in opponent points in the paint. If they can contest the Clippers shots on the inside, it is hard to see the visitors doing enough on the perimeter to keep this one close. Back the Jazz with confidence to cover.
